Concrete pumps and mobile cranes on work sites frequently overturn. Recovering them is a delicate and dangerous operation, which requires following a well-established procedure.

PARTS AND OPERATION OF A CONCRETE PUMP

A concrete pump consists of two parts: the carrier truck with the pump, and the pipes that deliver the concrete. When working at height, the concrete placing boom stretches the pipes to the desired floors.

LIFTING OVERTURNED EQUIPMENT

An engineer must be consulted whenever equipment tips over to draw up a precise lifting plan. This plan identifies the steps, equipment and safety measures required such as evacuating areas and closing streets.

EXECUTING THE MANEUVER

Two mobile cranes are often used to straighten an overturned pump or crane. Operators must be trained, and a qualified person must coordinate the operation, ensuring that everything goes according to plan.

RISKS AND PRECAUTIONS

Failure to properly restrain the boom when lifting can cause the equipment to tip over again. Lifting cable anchors must be strong; they could cause serious accidents if they broke. With proper planning and execution, these maneuvers can be carried out without danger to workers.
