How do you get a construction job when the labour pools open?
When a pool opens, it means that there’s a labour shortage in a trade or occupation. It’s an interesting opportunity to get into the construction industry without any training, degrees or experiences. There’s a construction labour pool for everybody: carpenters, joiners and even for women!
Important! The pools could open at any time. That means it’s crucial that you have your file prepared and be ready to act fast. Here’s what to do:
- Find a trade you’re interested in.
That’s the first step. For some help, look through the list of trades and occupations for details on each of these jobs. - Fill out the labour pool registration form.
Send us the form to let us know what you’ve chosen. A member of our team will then help you prepare your registration file. When it’s all filled out, we take it upon ourselves to monitor the labour pools, save you a spot, and send your file to the CCQ. - Get a job guarantee for 150 hours over 3 months
Don’t know anyone who’s hiring? No problem. We keep a list of all the employers who are recruiting in your area.
To make it easier on you, CSD Construction can provide you a template guarantee for 150 hours that the employer has to sign to make your job guarantee official. - Take the Health and safety on Construction Sites course to get the ASP card.
We pay all the registrations fees for the course for participants who are part of CSD Construction.

How do you know if a pool is open?
Every day, the CCQ updates the status of the availability of labour by trade, occupation and geographic area. Sign up for the Alerte pénurie service to keep track of the status of the labour pools.
Now’s your chance! The pool has opened.
That means there’s a labour shortage. It’s time for our team to save your spot. Once the CCQ authorizes it, you’ll receive an apprentice competency certificate that will allow you to work on a construction site while also completing your learning path.
Stay alert! The pool is closed but it could open up soon.
Less than 10% of workers are available for work in your area. Make sure your file is complete and ready to go.
