Supporting the integration of foreign workers in the construction industry
We’re in a labour shortage situation and foreign workers are more and more common in the Quebec construction industry. Between the language barrier and their foreign worker status, these people are all too often trapped in precarious living conditions.
CSD Construction wants to make sure that foreign workers get decent working and living conditions as well as opportunities for professional development.
Protecting foreign workers
Temporary foreign workers who have closed work permits have to stay employed by the same employer the whole time they’re in Canada. With the labour shortage it’s becoming more and more common for foreign workers to work illegally on construction sites.
Without competency certificates or training, their health and safety at work is at higher risk. CSD Construction is calling for changes to Bill R-20 that would include specific clauses to govern the employment of foreign workers on construction sites.
