Workers of the residential sector will go on strike Wednesday morning, May 28, at 0:01 a.m.

What to do as soon as the strike begins?

If you work on a residential worksite, staff from the Alliance syndicale de la construction will be waiting for you at your assembly point as soon as the strike begins. Know that:

  • you don’t have to show up at your job site,
  • your employer cannot force you to work during a strike,
  • you continue to be employed by your employer, even if you refuse to work because of the strike.

Dress code: You may be sent out to mobilize people on construction sites, so it is important that you show up wearing your work clothes, including your helmet and steel-toe boots.

Meeting points

Mobilization meeting points will be set up throughout Quebec. On site, the people in charge will tell you what to do and give you the forms to fill in to claim your strike allowance.

Lunch: Meals will be available at all meeting points for workers who are on site.

Strike fund

CSD Construction manages a strike fund for its members, which we call a strike allowance. To qualify, you must:

  • be a member in good standing of CSD Construction,
  • be employed by a contractor in the (heavy or light) residential sector at the time of the strike,
  • actively participate in mobilization activities,
  • have completed the form provided by CSD Construction (handed out by the mobilization team at the various meeting points).

Members will receive $30 from the union for each 1/3 of a day during which they attend mobilization activities. This allowance is paid for a period of 14 conflict days (maximum of $300 per week).

Then, starting on the conflict’s 15th day, CSD will pay a weekly allowance of $275, which will increase to $300 per week starting on the conflict’s 7th week.

Useful information to receive your allowance

To receive your strike allowance, you must provide:

  • your most recent pay stub,
  • blank cheque (payment will be made through direct deposit).

You can submit these documents in two ways:

  • In person at a meeting point,
  • By replying to the email (you will receive an automated email for each 1/3 of a day registered with the Alliance Syndicale).

Why do we ask for proof?

We want to ensure that the strike allowance is paid only to CSD Construction members, and specifically to those who are truly without income during the strike. CSD Construction is committed to being transparent with the management of your dues

When will I receive payment?

You will receive an electronic transfer as soon as we receive your documents.

Are gas and meals reimbursed?

You must make your own way to the meeting point. However, an allowance ($0.59 per kilometre) will be paid to members who transport other people to worksites for the day’s mobilization activities.

Meals will be available at all meeting points for workers who are on site.
