We were in Gatineau on February 28, alongside activists from various CSD-affiliated unions, to manifest at the offices of Minister of Employment, Randy Boissonnault.
We wanted to push the Liberal Party of Canada into fulfilling its 2015 promise to reform Employment Insurance, a promise which has yet to materialize.
Here are our demands:
- Fix the black hole issue by adding 15 weeks of benefits
- Make EI benefits available to every worker who has worked 420 hours or 12 weeks
- Ensure workers can combine regular and special benefits, such as Quebec Parental Insurance Plan payments
- Limit exclusion criteria, including for voluntary departures
